Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
